The Plastic Water-Ring Pelletizing Line represents one of the most widely adopted pelletizing methods currently used in the fields of plastic recycling and modification. Its primary mechanism involves using rotating blades to cut molten plastic directly at the die face, followed by the rapid cooling and conveyance of the resulting pellets through a high - speed rotating water ring.
This method is particularly well - suited for processing thermoplastic materials such as PE, PP, EVA, and ABS, especially those materials characterized by high viscosity or a tendency for extruded strands to break easily.
Core Process Workflow
Water - ring pelletizing lines are highly integrated systems. A typical production workflow proceeds as follows:
Raw Material Compounding/Extrusion → Screen Filtration → Die Head (Multi - hole Die Plate) → Water - Ring Pelletizer → Centrifugal Dewaterer → Vibrating Screen → Storage Silo

Key Component Functions:
Die Head and Die Plate: Molten material is extruded through the die holes via a flow distribution plate. The surface of the die plate typically undergoes special treatment (such as a hardened coating) to minimize frictional wear against the cutting blades.
Pelletizing Cutter Head: The cutting blades rotate in close contact with the die face. The rotational speed of the pelletizer is typically controlled by a variable frequency drive (VFD), allowing for precise control over the size and shape of the resulting pellets.
Water Hood and Water Ring: Under the combined influence of centrifugal force and water flow, the freshly cut, hot pellets travel along a circulating water ring formed against the inner wall of the water hood. This water ring serves the dual function of both cooling and conveying the pellets.
Centrifugal Dewaterer: This unit utilizes high - speed rotation to spin off surface moisture from the pellets, typically achieving a dryness level exceeding 98%.
Technical Core and Selection Recommendations
When configuring a water - ring pelletizing line, the following three core factors directly impact the quality of the resulting pellets:
Contact Precision Between Cutter Blades and Die Face:
This is a key technical challenge in water - ring pelletizing. Advanced equipment typically employs pneumatic or spring - loaded automatic blade - feeding systems to ensure the cutting blades maintain constant, uniform pressure against the die face. If the pressure is insufficient, the pellets may fuse together into a continuous sheet; conversely, if the pressure is excessive, accelerated wear of the die face will occur.
Circulating Water Temperature Control:
If the water temperature is too low, it can cause material buildup and clogging at the die head (known as "die - face freezing"). Conversely, if the water temperature is too high, the pellets will not cool sufficiently and will be prone to sticking together. It is generally recommended to install an industrial chiller or a heat exchanger to stabilize the water temperature.
Die Hole Distribution Design:
The arrangement of the die holes must take into account the rheological properties of the material to ensure a consistent discharge rate between the edges and the center; otherwise, this will result in inconsistent pellet sizes.
